Lyme Hall, Cheshire - original cyanotype print
'Lyme Hall' is an original cyanotype (sun) print.
This beautiful property, owned and managed by the National Trust, sits in 1400 acres of parkland on the edge of the Peak District. The house famously featured as Mr Darcy’s home Pemberley in the BBC adaptation of Pride & Prejudice.
Open edition, signed by me as the artist. Printed on A5 sized 300gsm Snowdon paper.
Cyanotypes use the power of UV light with light-sensitive chemicals, to produce a beautiful Prussian Blue print. Here, I have used a manipulated photo negative (one of my own photos) to create a mask where the light cannot get to. The masked areas that are protected from the sun remain white, with the exposed areas reacting with the sunlight to turn Prussian blue.
With this print the cyanotype solution has been applied using loose brush strokes, to create a “magic paintbrush” effect. This means that each print is slightly different, even though they use the same negative mask. Differences also occur from variations in UV levels, exposure time etc, so each print is truly unique.
Unframed / umounted - the print will be shipped flat, carefully wrapped in acid-free tissue with a backboard (no plastic). The photo of the framed print is for illustration only.
